Skills Enrichment Program

One-on-one interventions/Social Skills Groups

The Skills Enrichment Program is designed to focus on building new skills that increase the client's quality of life. These skills are broken down into four broad categories:

  • Independence and Life Skills: teach daily living skills that help the individual achieve independence.

  • Academic Skills: sessions break down academic tasks (such as math, reading, writing, etc.) into more manageable steps to accelerate learning.

  • Social Skills: support individuals to navigate the social world, develop skills to make friends and build relationships.

  • Language: assist in developing the ability to express wants and needs.

  • Behavioural Support: targets self-regulation.

Procedure

To sign up, please fill out the general application. After we receive your response, we will contact you to set up an intake interview with you or/and your child to better understand your goals.

Fee

Services may be funded by The Family Supports for Children with Disabilities program through the Department of Social Development.

The Skills Enrichment Program is offered in partnership with UNB’s Applied Behaviour Analysis(ABA) Certificate Program. The ABA Certificate students apply their knowledge working with clients under the direction of Dr. Michael Palmer (Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, BCBA-D) and a BCBA clinical supervisor. The teaching program/clinic allows students to provide low-cost skill-building services while simultaneously learning and practicing their clinical skills.

Practicum students do not:

  • Support clients with behaviours that pose a safety risk to the client themselves or to the Behaviour Technician.

  • Or clients that require more service hours than the student's weekly availability.

Social Skills Groups

Through the Skills Enrichment program, social skill groups may be offered. The social skills groups offer evidence-based strategies to facilitate social interaction and to help the individual understand basic social rules and norms.
